Sexual Abuse Online Course
Instructor: Kelly Warner, MSW
Sexual abuse is extremely compacted with many layers. Anyone can be a victim of sexual abuse, and pepetrators often are not strangers. The perpetrator can be of the same age, younger or much older. Sexual abuse can occur over a long period of time or happen once. It can be violent or part of a game played with a child. Exchange of goods can be given for the abuse that occurred. Family doesn’t always believe the victim because of varying beliefs about and experience with abuse. Court systems can be more traumatizing, police can be frightening and evidence may be hard to find. All of these things contribute to the challenges that exist for survivors of sexual abuse and assault. Every sexual assault or abuse case you encounter will have to be treated differently as each case and set of clients that comes with it will be made up of different circumstances, beliefs, strengths and challenges.
By participating in this course you will:
- gain a better understanding of the dynamics of sexual abuse and assault
- increase knowledge of barriers faced by survivors of sexual abuse and their families
- have hands-on interventions to be used with a variety of youth
