Eating Disorders and Trauma Online Course
Instructor: Caelan Kuban, LMSW
As the connection has become more established it becomes imperative that trauma assessment is part of the initial evaluation process. If a trauma history exists then trauma specific intervention must also be a part of the healing process, as we now know that unresolved trauma and its emotional, biological, and neurological impact can be driving eating disorder behaviors. If we can help children and adolescents find relief from their earlier trauma and the intense anxiety we see with unresolved trauma, it may be much easier for them to alter their eating behavior. This course provides a brief overview of eating disorders, research that supports the link between eating disorders and trauma and provides several examples of activities to incorporate into trauma intervention programs when working with a child or adolescent who is also struggling with disordered eating.
Cost of taking this course online is $100. Upon successful completion of assignments tests and evaluation, a certificate of completion can be downloaded. CEs are not included in the price of this course but can be purchased in the TLC Online Bookstore. If you have questions about CEUs email [email protected].

Great course.... very different perspective when you consider eating disorders from a trauma perspective.
I felt the teacher did an excellent job of presenting a broad range of information about ED, including info about relationship to trauma, an informative study by Rudi Dallos,on-line accounts by persons with ED, and information about BED which will probably be in the DSM Five (i.e. not yet in print).
I thought the navigation of the online course was not difficult. I thought the objectives were excellent and they were met for specific populations (i.e AN,BN,BED, and men with ED differentiated from women. I thought there were specific trauma interventions throughout the course that increased learning (e.g. mutual comforting, expression of feelings, increase in clear and positive communication and problem solving to mention a few.
